Brandon Mably joined the Kaffe Fassett Studio in 1991 and quickly developed an international reputation for graphic, playful designs brimming with color. “Fence” was first published in Rowan Knitting Magazine 25 in the Spring of 1999. Classic Mably, this sweater combines a fun graphic grid design with deep jewel colors to create a wonderful masculine pullover. Using Rowan Cotton Glace, Fine Cotton Chenille, and 4 ply Cotton, the sweater is knit from a chart using the intarsia technique and features inset drop shoulder sleeves and simple ribbed borders. The design is rated for experienced knitters and is suitable for anyone who is familiar with intarsia knitting. The pattern can be made in any of three sizes — medium with a finished chest measurement of 50 inches to x large with a finished chest measurement of 54 inches. Our kit contains all the yarn you require to complete the sweater in Brandon’s original colors. Modeled on a man, we think the colors would be equally attractive on a woman. The patterns calls for a tension of 23 stitches and 32 rows to 4 inches (10 cm) on US 3 (3.75 mm) needles. Some of these shades have been discontinued, so the kit is becoming increasingly difficult to assemble. In total the kit contains a copy of the pattern and the following shades of Rowan yarn, sufficient to knit the largest size: Cotton Glace in black (727), nightshade (746), and Lagoon (797); Fine Cotton Chenille in Ruby (407), Privet (410), Plum (409), Crocus (408), and Mousse (418); and Rowan 4 ply Cotton in Bonny (104). Where multiple hanks are required, we have selected matching dye lots.
